Nokia Plans World Wide Music Party

Nokia is planning an extravagant send-off to 2006, and welcoming in of 2007, by co-ordinating a worldwide New Year’s Eve party spanning five cities, connecting up millions of music lovers in the process. Starting at Hong Kong’s Ocean Terminal, then travelling west through Mumbai’s Andheri Stadium, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro and finally New York, the party will be beamed via TV and the Internet for those not lucky enough to be there in person.

The Black Eyed Peas, Scissor Sisters, and Nelly Furtado are among the performers reportedly taking part in the celebration later this month. The bands will criss-cross the globe, playing in Hong Kong and Mumbai, India before the Scissor Sisters headline at the Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate, whilst the Black Eyed Peas head for Inanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Scissor Sister’s frontman Jake Shears added: “We’re damn thrilled to be playing Nokia’s world wide music party. It should be a helluva good time.”

Global attendance is expected to top 1.3 million, with a combined TV and Internet audience of 150 million.
